Q: Why
does the annual rainfall on the Home
screen show a different amount than on the Summary page? Which is correct?
A: The
new weather station computer interface was put into service on 2/12/2010.
Unfortunately, the software used for the graphical display on the Home
screen does not allow for adjustments to include prior periods, nor
even for the July-June rainfall year. I am trying to persuade the authors
to include this feature. On the summary page, there is some backend
calculation being done so that it shows an adjusted rainfall figure
that fits with our local concept of what the rainfall year should be,
and includes data collected before this system was brought online. If
you are looking for any of the data accumulated over the last four years,
see the Historical Data screen.

Q: How can I see the
trending values of say the temperature or the wind etc on the Home
screen?
A: Click
on the figure displayed below the icon. By default you will see a graph
of the last 24 hours' figures, and you can choose to display the last
hour, month, etc.

Q: What causes the
flashing brighter image on the Satellite
screen - I notice it in the mornings?
A: That is
the terminator (daylight line) moving across the screen.

Q: I get confused
by the display on the Temps/Alerts
page. It seems if I use Firefox as my browser, I can set the PWS in the
panel on the lower left of the screen from the default of "Rancho
San Diego" to "Mother Grundy" and it stays as such even
across sessions. But if I use Internet Explorer it never changes from
"Rancho ...". And what's this about Alerts? I don't see any!
A: This is
a bug in Internet Explorer, poor handling of tags in Inframes. (Safari
is even worse). I suggest using Firefox, it's so much faster anyway. And
the Alerts will only show up - in the right hand lower corner - if there
are active Weather Alerts issued by the National Weather Service.
